Volunteer Tab

Palmetto Curling
Since volunteering is the lifeblood of curling clubs, I'd love to see a 'Volunteer' tab, so members can easily see upcoming events and sign up. Putting a volunteer event under "Products" does not seem intuitive or helpful. Right now I'm using free software for volunteer signups and am just tired of having our members go to other sites. I'd like to have Curling I/O be their 'world' :-)

We've added a "Programs" section which can be used to house or Volunteer events / lists and / or other types of programs like Learn 2 Curls, Curling Camps, Training, Seminars, etc.

You can rename it to Volunteers if you want to just use it for volunteer events and lists.

Some questions I have for anyone voting on this feature.
I assume you want to (optionally) restrict who can sign up to be a volunteer and who can see the list of volunteers? I think basing this on have a curler profile registered for anything (league, product, fee, or venue) in the current season should be the restriction?
So even a seasonal Social / Volunteer product that costs nothing, but requires a curler profile, could be what grants access.
Also, for those using other third party platforms to manage and publish their volunteer lists, can you list what you're using and / or which features are essential?
Feedback should be kept simple. I don't want to brainstorm complicated ideas for this. I first want to get something built and working that covers the base use case(s). We can always iterate on it.

Dave Rapin I agree with your assumptions; I like requiring a curler profile as a prerequisite to register to volunteer.
We're mostly using our communication platform to have members say they can help with events on a very adhoc basis. Volunteering is tracked in a member's notebook; not ideal. I've been trying to get people to use a 3rd party online platform, but it's overly complicated and adoption isn't happening.
Would like to see user created templates for event types (event description, volunteer roles, # of volunteers required, # of volunteers committed). Just need to update the date/time and number of volunteers when making a new event. Notify volunteer coordinator via email a user specified timing leading up to event regarding volunteer registration status. Email a reminder to volunteers a week before and the day before the event.

Patrick McCarthy: Interesting. So you're thinking this should be tied into the club calendar to specific events? https://curling.io/docs/club-management/calendar
I thought it would just be a list of roles in a dropdown that people would sign up for on a seasonal basis.
I guess a volunteer event (not sure on the naming) could be like a product in a way (but with dates)? It could be $0 if it should be free or cost something if you wanted and require a curler profile and even specific fees. It could show up in the calendar just like games with a link to it's detail screen where you can add it to your cart. Basically a new section. Addons, Custom fields, even discounts, etc.

Dave Rapin We currently only need volunteers for our Learn to Curl and corporate events. For our league play, everyone just helps set up and tear down every session (we're an arena club). For the L2Cs we utilize a widely-used third party event platform for sign ups, so they don't show up in our Curling IO calendar. The corporate events are organized via email and likewise don't have a presence on Curling IO as it stands now.
For user clarity, I would want to see a volunteering section of the platform rather than grouping it with Products, though it could use most of the same backend functionality. In your last paragraph it sounds like you're going down the same path as I was envisioning.

Patrick McCarthy Yes, it would be a new thing structured like products but with dates. I'm thinking it could probably be more generic than just volunteers, since I know some people have asked for time sensitive products. Basically events that are not leagues or competitions (not specifically curling events). I think we'd give you some options on how to name it (just like you can choose the naming for competitions / bonspiels), and they would also show up in the calendar.
I'd be interested to learn more about the L2C platform your using. Maybe we're just missing some stuff that's forcing you into third party complexity. Reach out to me directly though if you want to chat about that. I don't want to pollute this thread.

We'd like to tackle this, just not sure yet on the approach.

Our Club assembles a list of volunteers to fill specific positions for several bingo dates each season (as a fundraiser). We need a team of eight: one Chairperson, one Paymaster, and six Floor Workers for each bingo. We also found "Products" and "Competitions" to be non-intuitive tabs. "Competitions" is close, but we'd need three lines for each bingo date (Bingo Date Chair (1 spot available), Bingo Date Pay (1 spot), and Bingo Date Floor (6 spots). We use Google Forms with addon "Choice Eliminator" to do the job. This works well, but like you, it would be nice to keep it all within Curling I/O...
