Copy curlers and teams when copying a league
complete
Steve Copeland
We run multiple stages for a league during the curling season. Each stage resets the standings and the pools are adjusted based on results from the previous stage. It would save a great deal of time if there was an option to copy curlers and teams when copying the league. Only pools would need to be adjusted for the upcoming stage.

You can now import teams from other events. Only events that match the team restrictions (open, mens, womens, etc.) for the current season can be selected.

We're considering adding an "Import Teams" button on the teams tab for leagues and competitions.
This will allow you to upload a CSV with team names, contact info, and lineups. The format will work with the CSV download from events. This way you can download the teams (csv file) from an existing event, tweak it in Excel or Google Sheets if you like, and then upload it to your new event.
We're going to add a new "Lineup IDs" field to the existing team downloads in order to support this. The existing curler name based lineup and position columns will be ignored by the import. We'll only add curlers to the teams that have registered at the club to avoid abuse (you won't able to guess profile IDs to add someone famous to your teams!).
If a team already exists in the event, then the system will NOT overwrite it or merge it. If you really want to import over an existing team, then you can delete that team before you run the import.
- OR -
We just give you the option to import the teams from an existing event directly, rather than requiring you to first download the teams to CSV and then upload them. This is potentially less flexible, but also way more streamlined. Maybe we start with this and later on we also give you the ability to upload a CSV for more flexibility (like creating your own teams in excel and uploading that). We'll limit the event search (source of teams) to the current season events that have teams assigned to cut down on the noise.

Copying selected teams (Advancing) from another event(s)

Is there a way to advance teams who qualify for the next level without having to recreate them?

This would make a huge time-saver for the backend of the the creating of leagues. Thank you for considering this adjustment.

I agree with Steve that this would save a bunch of time in the creation of leagues. It would also make the registration process for curlers a lot simpler. They can select their Team from a dropdown, rather than freeform text. The pools and rankings can be taken care of when creating the Stages.

At the very least, a Team Import capability would save time.

I want to run a Xmas bonspiel with the teams from three leagues. I can copy the event from last year's event. But I have to manually input all 50 teams into the new event. Same for the wind up bonspiel and banquet. I'd like to be able to export the teams from their leagues and then import them into the event. Can that function be added?

I think the way we'd want to do this is to go into the new competition, click a button to
import teams
from another competition, search / find that competition, and then check off a checkbox next to each team you want to import. This would copy the teams over (but not the registrations) and then you could work with them and modify them same as if you created them manually.
Does that sound about right?

Dave Rapin: Yes, that sounds right. It certainly would simplify things and decrease the current workload for those who create the "next level" competition where teams advance to, not register for. That way we could also change players if need be (ie. someone gets replaced).

leslie.kerr@curlnoca.ca: It also potentially solves at least some of the issues around competitor cards. If a team is advanced instead of having to register for the next event we can still enforce competitor cards for those who do need to register (didn't participate in an earlier event). You'd still need to allow individual competitor card purchases though for substitutes who didn't already pay for one in a previous event.
I would like to get a consensus on this between the MAs though. For example, is it reasonable for CurlManitoba to advance teams this way instead of having them register for the next event? Are there no additional costs for teams that advance? Is this a rule we can make across the board for all provinces?

I vote for this ... we have an electronic system that creates more manual work than is required. If a team plays in one level of the competition we should be able to move them thru the system without a ton of manual work.
