Many of our members pay 50% at the start of the season and 50% at the midseason break. Those members MUST pay in the club both times. It isn't too bad at the mid season as they tend to break themselves up over time...but since they can't do the initial payment online the first night of league play is overwhelmed with people paying at the bar. To be able to pay a portion at the start of the season would be GREAT

I think this is something we can add to products directly. No need for custom fields. We'll just have a flag on products that allows you to accept a variable amount.
I suspect you'll always want to specify a range of values that can be selected in a dropdown. I doubt you'll want to have the user type in a value. So we'll limit this to a dropdown on first pass.
I just need to come up with a way to delimit the options for the dropdown. A comma delimited list is a bit iffy when it comes to currency, especially when we support french when a comma means a decimal point :)

Can a custom field criteria be used to add a fee at registration time? For example, if I use a pull down to select the amount of the donation, can the registration now include the fee that matches the criteria? Similar to applying a discount based on custom field match.

Allow customers to pay partial payments and let admin be able to turn this on and off on case by case.
