This is what I have so far. Feedback please!.
1) First screen is the "My Curlers" when users go to setup their spare availability.
2) Second screen is where you indicate which leagues and competitions you can spare for.
3) Third screen is what other curlers (who have logged in) will see under the spares tab for a specific league or competition.
Keep in mind that leagues and competitions will need to be flagged as allowing spares before they'll show up in the list (there will be a new checkbox when editing / creating a league). Only the league that a curler is eligible (gender and age appropriate) for playing in will be shown as a checkbox on the screen where they specify their leagues / competition to spare in.

Our spares don’t have to pay to spare. They may or may not be curling in another league where they would have had to pay league dues. But we do ask them to create a curler profile so we have their info. I think Dave’s suggestions are worth a try.

We're interested in implement some sort of "Spare List" functionality that wouldn't require clubs to hack it with workarounds, but we could use some feedback on what you'd like to see. Here's a rough draft of what I think this should look like:
For members:
----
Allow user's to pick which leagues they can spare for specific to each of their curler profiles. Only the current season's leagues will be shown. Curler's are removed from the spare list for a league once the league ends.
User's can go in and change which leagues they can spare for at any time.
For admins:
----
When creating or editing a league, admins can check a box to indicate that the league participates in the "spare" list. For example, a learn to curler league wouldn't be in the spare list, but a Monday Mixed would be.
When assembling teams for a league, admin's can see the curler's who have opted into its spares list. This will be a new tab next to the "Registrations" tab in the league details.
Within the club dropdown menu there will be a new "Spares" section which just lists all spares for all leagues. The list can be filtered by the league (dropdown of the current season's leagues) and a name search.
For the public:
----
The public can see the names of curlers (no contact or private info) that have registered for the spare list within a league's details (it's another tab, like teams, schedule, registrations, standings, etc.). Only shows up for leagues that support spares.
Question:
----
Can anyone with a curler profile indicate which leagues they are willing to spare for, or should it be limited to curlers that have already paid affiliate and membership fees?
Any other feedback?

Dave Rapin: Our spares do not have to be members so we would need it open to anyone. This sounds great though. We do charge to spare though and have talked about an option to buy a 7 week spare package instead of paying each time. The pricing would be different for members and non-members.
Dave Rapin
Stacey Dobbin: Does it make sense that the fee to spare is part of a product and yet they could still indicate which leagues they are willing to spare for regardless of whether they've purchased that product or paid any fees?
Stacey Dobbin
Dave Rapin: Yes I think that would work
Dave Rapin
Stacey Dobbin: OK because I'm concerned about delivering a feature that doesn't work for all clubs. There are other approaches we could take, like where registration and potential payment are required, but they would be far more cumbersome for curlers and probably wouldn't fit with the way some clubs manage spare lists.
Stacey Dobbin
Dave Rapin: We definitely have a different setup than most clubs but hopefully next year we will come more into line. We can make it work at our end if it’s not exactly what we need so having it setup to work with most clubs makes sense

Dave Rapin: Hi Dave -this seems good to me but I am copying our club manager to respond to you more formally.

Dave Rapin: Anyone can create a curling profile without being a member of a club, and then add themselves to a spare list. Is there a way to restrict access to those adding their name to the spare list to only those that are "members"? For our club, members have registered for any league, or have paid for the "Affiliate Member" Product.
Dave Rapin
Paul Neufeldt: Hey Paul. Are you running into this now, or more just worried about it happening?
Paul Neufeldt
Dave Rapin: I haven't run into it yet, I was just testing the capability with my test curler profiles.
Dave Rapin
Paul Neufeldt: Understood. So as it stands right now, signing up to be a spare doesn't actually put you in a league. All it does is makes it easier for staff to find you and add you to a league (with a filter option). If we see this getting flooded / abused though there are limits we can add. For now though I'd like to leave it open since a curler might set their spare availability first and then weeks later purchase a membership or league. Also bonspiels might have less restrictions.
What we will do though is add some indications when adding curlers to events so that you can see and filter by whether or not they've purchased something and accepted the waiver.
Paul Neufeldt
Dave Rapin: Ok, thanks.

I added a Spare league to our league list and then under custom fields, I added a tick box for each of our leagues. It's not perfect but it gives us a list of contacts.
