Permission to Publish Registration

Due to some curler's professions (police, social workers, …) or challenging relationship circumstances (spousal abuse, foster children, ...) there is a real need for these curlers' names as well as contact information to not be viewable online.
The Publish Registrations checkbox for each league is a good start, but it's an all or nothing application. We would benefit from seeing the information for the 90+% of curlers who are happy to share names and contact information.
We need the ability for curlers to give, or withhold, permission for the publication of this information online. Permission should be in the form of, 'Name and phone', 'Name only', or 'Neither Name nor phone'. 'Registrations' and 'Teams' accessed from each league page would display 'Name' and 'Phone' for each curler as per the permission granted'.
Permission (a mandatory field) could be selected by the curler on the curler profile or at the time of signing the Waiver.

Dave Rapin I notice my "allow..." box is checked; which is fine. But, where exactly would another member see that information? I looked in Leagues / ... / Registration and I see my name, but not contact info.
Dave Rapin
Cold Lake Curling Club It's actually a field that already existed, but was just switched on / off as part of the sparing interface. By default it should be unchecked, unless you already had it checked for sparing.
It's considered a core field and will always be present on the normal curler profile edit screen. See attached.

Dave Rapin I meant, where would any other member see my contact information, since my allow box is checked. We've created a "Member Directory" page, which has to be populated manually; I was thinking this "allow" feature would be something similar -- a place where any other logged-in registered member could see all other member contact information (those who allow it). Contact info is shown in the respective spares list, but only a few members are on a spares list.

Cold Lake Curling Club Sounds reasonable to have more places to view this info. Make it a new feature request!

We're adding a "Allow other members to see my contact information" checkbox to curler profiles. If checked, contact information will only be shared with members (some item has been paid or partially paid for that has a curler profile assigned to it).
The impactful aspect is that this will be "unchecked" by default and contact info will be hidden from other members (and the world) until a curler opts in. This probably means that 99% of curlers will have their contact information hidden from other members permanently, because they'll probably leave it unchecked during registration and never bother to change it.
We're also thinking we should require contact info is shown (checkbox is checked) if a curler wants to signup as a spare for any events. I doubt sparing with hidden contact information has any value since no one will know how to reach you.
We're not currently planning to add multiple publish options (name or name + phone, etc.) as it clutters up and creates friction during registration, and requiring profiles already generates enough pushback from curlers. We'll possibly revisit this down the road.

Dave Rapin we have a similar example where we publish roster information (team name and players on the team and the contact info of those players).
Our registrants can opt in to this, upon which their details will be added to the roster listing. The catch is, if they don't opt in (by ticking the box), essentially opting out, they are telling us they do not want their name on the list. In turn we do not make the list available to them. Kind of a "You won't share your information with others, we won't share other's information with you" scenario. This may be a better way to deal with opting in since you may get more involvement from participants if they ou know they ou will only be able to get access to contact info if them themselves are willing to theirs. Food for thought. Ron

Ron Pelkey it's an idea. We'll see how it goes. Ultimately sharing information between members is probably only really useful at the sparing and teams levels IMO, and we're working on some team specific features and communication now too. Now that I think about it, maybe this should be a dropdown with "Share with no-one, Share with members, Share with members in the same events, Share with teammates, etc.". We'll start with the boolean for now and revisit as necessary.

Dave Rapin Thanks for the reply. All good ideas. Start simple and enhance as needed. Cheers.

Justin Perry what do you think about making this part of the curler profile? A means to indicate how public they are willing to make their information along the lines of what Kate outlined. I don't think we'd use a dropdown, instead maybe a grouping of checkboxes for each field that could potentially be made public? E.g.
- [x] Name
- [ ] Phone
- [x] Photo
- [x] Age? (should this even be an option?)
Justin Perry
Dave Rapin: That works for me. Indeed, having individually checkable boxes for each datum is better than offering combos, since we do not want to guess. Perhaps we could have a prompt at first curler profile creation, or otherwise season registration, to check those for "league sharing purposes only" (or some such verbiage). And this re-prompts every new season like the waiver.

This makes sense.
