Email Broadcasting

Clubs would like to send broadcasted emails (marketing / promotion / notification) to groups of curlers based on what they've purchased.
Currently they have to use MailChimp for this, but MailChimp has gotten expensive and restrictive. It's also probably a lot more complicated than most of our clubs want.
Curling IO should have broadcast emails built-in. There are costs to sending broadcast emails, so we might need to implement an email credits system with monthly grants and an option to purchase additional credits when / if needed. TBD.
We also need to be careful we're sending broadcasts from a separate stream / IP than our transactional emails (stuff like login links and receipts) or deliverability of transactional emails will deteriorate.
I think we'll start very simple with just plain text email blasts, but may build out a better UI and segmenting logic down the road, depending on what our clubs need.

Dave Rapin Looks great, thanks so much! I'm guessing there might be questions from larger clubs regarding the credit cap... the 6000 cap to a club with 100 members means ~60 broadcasts, whereas only 6 broadcasts to a club of 1000 members. Would it be possible to set the limit based on club membership for any given season, to permit say 10 broadcasts a season? Perhaps initially based on last season membership, and adjusted after the current season registrations have settled?

Cold Lake Curling Club Larger clubs can purchase additional credits as needed. Purchased credits ignore the cap. The cap is just what we'll auto-assign based on volume. I've updated the documentation to make this more obvious. It was definitely hidden.

With Mailchimp now reducing their free account limits (500 contacts, 1000 emails) is there any plans for integration with other contact software?

Have you considered Google Workspace for NonProfits (a club's nonprofit society needs to validate themselves with TechSoup.ca as a nonprofit organization then apply to Google for Google Workspace for Nonprofits free license.) It has a Mail Merge feature that is limited to 2,000 recipients per 24 hour period. Very easy to use once you build an appropriate Contacts list in Google Workspace. With that said, Curling I/O already has the Profiles that it can use for a similar bulk mailing feature.

There's so many email marketing products, but I'm considering adding a "MailerLite" integration as it seems affordable. Thoughts?

Dave Rapin MailerLite would work fine for us - we only broadcast to prompt registrations (i.e. shortly before a league/event start date), so a few times a season. We would, though, need to filter out folks who have "opted-out" in the past, or are no longer affiliated (e.g. re-located, retired from curling, etc). We use the "seasonal curlers comparison" report as the starting point.

I was coming to ask this question as well!
